Do you need to be knocked out to have a concussion?
No. Only about 10% of concussions involve loss of consciousness — but every suspected concussion should be taken seriously.
Do I need a scan?
Concussions don’t usually show up on CT or MRI scans. If symptoms worsen (vomiting, severe headache, confusion, weakness), seek emergency care immediately.
Is a concussion a traumatic brain injury (TBI)?
Yes. A concussion is a mild TBI. Severity is classified by Glasgow Coma Scale, loss of consciousness, amnesia, and imaging results.
